Ontario's Historical Plaques was launched in March 2004 by the late Alan L. Brown, a retired school librarian with a lifelong passion for plaques. In retirement, he set out with a digital camera to document each of the Provincial government's Ontario Heritage Trust plaques and create a dedicated page for each one on this site. (more)

(continued from the top of this page) Beginning in May 2009, Alan also began adding all the Federal government's Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada plaques in Ontario to the website. This site includes only provincial and federal plaques. Although there are thousands of local ones erected throughout the province, due to time constraints and the fact the site was independently operated, it remained focused on these two sources.

Visitors can explore plaques using the 'Index', 'Subjects', 'Locations', 'Map', and 'Search' links found in the top and bottom menus. The menus also link to related websites and offer a way to contact the site's current administrator via 'Email'.

This site is indexed by the FreeFind search engine.

Note that all the historical plaques in the City of Toronto are not posted here but are available on the companion website, torontoplaques.ca.
